Cottage Farm was established in 1976 – so we’re one of the oldest riding schools in the area. We began with just a few ponies and now have horses and ponies to suit everyone, from small ponies suitable for children taking their first lessons, willing but reliable cobs for the nervous or novice rider, to horses suitable for more competent riders.
We’re right on the edge of York, easily accessible by bike or bus as well as by car. We boast a spacious all-weather arena, with flood-lights to enable riding even on darker evenings. We’re at the end of a quiet lane and our riders often comment on how they feel right out in the country, with buzzards and deer frequently spotted from the arena – while the towers of York Minster can be seen in the other direction!
Yard owner and chief instructor Kathy Maclean has competed in British Eventing horse trials up to Advanced level and still regularly competes in Dressage. As well as teaching clients on the riding school ponies and horses, Kathy welcomes people bringing their own horses for instruction. She enjoys encouraging riders to develop their own horse’s potential, in whatever discipline – both competition and non-competing combinations are equally welcome.
Please phone us on 01904 416245 to book riding lessons, or message us through Facebook.
Cottage Farm Stables is fully licensed and insured, with annual inspections by Council vets of our horses and facilities.
